INTRO TO Top rope anchors “learning the how”

This course is one in our series of events offered exclusively in the Watertown, NY area for 10th Mountain Division Soldiers and families. This course will teach you the skills necessary to climb outdoors on your own. This is also a great starting point if you desire to attend the Mountain Warfare School. Clients will learn the skills needed to build top rope anchors in various types of terrain. This intro to anchors course will cover how to use static rope and cordelettes to build anchors on natural features (trees, boulders, etc). This course is a critical component for all climbers, and specifically Northeast climbers, in their journey to self-sufficiency outdoors. This course will teach clients how to evaluate terrain for suitability, tie knots (to include a BHK, Bowline, clove hitch, and figure-8 follow through) and place anchor masterpoints to allow for appropriate lines of ascent. Following this course clients will be able to competently construct their own anchors for climbing and rappelling in most terrain that does not provide bolted anchors, or does not require the use of traditional or “Trad” equipment.

intro to outdoor climbing “Having Fun”

This course is one in our series of events offered exclusively in the Watertown, NY area for 10th Mountain Division Soldiers and families. This intro day is for those that want to see what climbing is all about. Clients will spend the day with an experienced guide learning the ropes of outdoor climbing. Clients will learn the basics of climbing technique, to include how to belay and how to tie into the rope with a figure-8 follow-through. Clients will be instructed in the basics of footwork and climbing movement, while being challenged on a variety of terrain. This program is designed for the beginner climber, or the climber new to outdoor climbing. The goal is to experience the thrill of outdoor climbing in a low stress, fun manner. This is ideal for anyone that wants to get into climbing as a hobby, or to get some hands on practice prior to going to the school house.

Self Rescue for the Outdoor Climber “staying calm as it all goes wrong”

This course is one in our series of events offered exclusively in the Watertown, NY area for 10th Mountain Division Soldiers and families. This course is designed for someone who has climbed outside, maybe having attended the Basic Mountaineering Course, but who wants more practical and structured knowledge of how to solve common issues that happen as we are climbing. How do I escape the belay? Can I rescue an injured partner? How can I descend when I drop my belay device, and many more questions may arise as we climb more. Learning these skills, and continuing to practice them, will ensure that we are prepared, and when these issues arise we can respond timely, effectively, and most of all safely.

Guide to Client Ratio: 1:6 max - We require 4 bookings for this course to run.
Experience Required: Prior Climbing Experience Required. You should know how to construct climbing anchors, and how to belay, at a minimum.
